De HPE Smart Array P840ar Controller is een flexibele Smart Array 12 Gb/s Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), PCI-Express (PCIe) 3.0 x8 RAID-controller die zakelijke opslagprestaties, verhoogde interne schaalbaarheid en gegevensbescherming biedt voor HPE ProLiant DL360 en DL380 Gen9 rackservers. Het beschikt over 16 interne fysieke verbindingen en verhoogt de server-uptime door geavanceerde opslagfunctionaliteit te bieden, waaronder online RAID-niveaumigratie tussen willekeurige RAID-niveaus met flash-backed write cache (FBWC), globale online reserve en pre-failure waarschuwing. Deze controller ondersteunt 16 schijven zonder de SAS Expander-kaart nodig te hebben en biedt punt-tot-punt connectiviteit met SSD's voor lagere latentie.
